Nine years ago I signed up with Telewest for TV, Telephone and the BEST broadband service around. I was one of the lucky few who got to be the testers in the 512k Broadband just before it was started. I was impressed ! The service got better and better, faster and faster. It was the best broadband available and I convinced many friends, family and people I met to sign up. Virgin media took over and we were given even faster broadband speeds again, but then it went all wrong. The service has gone down hill, I should have 20mb Broadband and my speed is 3mb if I am really lucky. Then we have traffic shaping, it's killed my connection as it seems to be on all the time. I have emailed several times but only ever got one reply and that was an automated message saying thanks for the email. No one has ever called. I am still having the same problem AND STILL PAYING £35 a month for this RUBBISH service. I would go as far as to say its false advertising and a breach of the trades description act. When I call the 25p a minute broadband number 09062121111 I get a dead number tone no matter what time I call. I have been told by customer service that its so we don't get charged for the call.. Well we wont get charged because the number is dead!!! You get what I'm saying. If and when I do finally get through, I know that I will have to go through 40 minutes of useless tests on my PC which I know is fine because if my pc was at fault then why do the other 2 pc's in my house have the same problem? This is by the way, with or without the router I have, as I thought it may be the router slowing it all down. Fortunately it isn't.
I know I am not the only person having this problem and that's why I searched and found loads of valuable info and so I have contacted watchdog and also contacted the gadget show who are at present conducting a broadband test for the UK.
I am really disappointed that it has come to this. It was a broadband service to die for. All I want is 20mb broadband because I am paying for it but getting hardly anything.
